Walking into the finale of this year's vitaminwater #uncapped last night, guests were greeted by the stuffy smell of yellowing books. The General Society Library, usually a quiet oasis filled with specialty trade books, had been transformed into a purple-tinted performance space fit for ATL royalty. Stationed at the library's circulation desk, Matt & Kim got the party going with a hip-hop DJ set that included Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade” and Jay Z’s “Tom Ford,” before Miss Info introduced headliner and #uncapped veteran B.o.B.
Backed by DJ Shawty Slim and dressed in all-black, B.o.B. immediately dialed up the energy on the #uncapped stage, stationed underneath the library's ornate glass skylight. After performing “Strange Clouds” from his 2012 album of the same name, Bobby Ray went straight into his most recognizable hit, “Nothing On You.” It was here where the evening's first special guest, Atlanta legend Big Boi, took the stage to perform his verse from the single’s remix. After “Nothing On You,” the duo jumped into their collaboration “Shoes For Running,” a lively track from Big Boi's Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Afterward, B.o.B went solo once again, running through “Kemosabe” and “Airplanes." Finally, Atlanta crooner and 2011 FADER cover star Future approached mysteriously, wearing dark sunglasses and a hooded coat, and sent the crowd into a feverish hype while performing “Ready." Future Hendrix then satisfied the crowd with two of his own cuts, “Bugatti” and “Honest,” before B.o.B closed out the show in the crowd, on his bodyguard’s shoulders. Surely, The General Society Library had never seen anything like it.
With the help of vitaminwater, one last boring Monday night in New York City had been made brilliant. See photos from the party below. To watch all of this summer’s performances and get ready for more #uncapped excellence next year, check out the vitaminwater YouTube channel.
