Stream Huerco S.’ new album, Colonial Patterns

September 19, 2013

Previously, we shared the woozily unfolding "Prinzif," a track from Kansas City producer Brian Leeds, aka Huerco S., whose incrementally building, textural dance music constructions evoke the heartbreaking modulations of William Basinski's Disintegration Loops as much as the sample-heavy techno/house of fellow Kansas City Art Institute album Theo Parrish. Now, he's streaming his Software debut, Colonial Patterns, via Dazed Digital. The spaciousness and careful construction of "Prinzif" is omni-present, but expect something much deeper, slower-growing, and more mysterious than an album full of instant ear candy (hint: he claims that its construction is based on the pre-Columbian dirt mounds that residents of the lost Native American city of Cahokia used to sweat into existence, shovel full by shovel full, building to a climax of complexity around "Prinzif" before sort of dipping back down into nothingness). Colonial Patterns is out September 24th.
