In the summer of 2012, coder Shawn McGrath unveiled a pretty tripped-out PlayStation 3 game called DYAD, a collaboration with Oakland composer David Kanaga that follows a single particle through space as it guns down various "enemies" along its path. The endless swirls of color feel kind of like abstract expressionism for the digital age, and the score is equally trance-inducing, responding in real-time to the momentary happenings along the particle's course with variations in pitch and tone as well as culture jamming combinations of ambient, dance and mainstream pop production tropes. Software is releasing the OST on October 15th, and you can stream a particularly soothing selection right here.
