Line Item: #jacques By Aronow x Brooklyn Tailors Repp Ties

August 30, 2013

Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our column Line Item, we ask some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. Today, Elliot Aronow tells us about the #jacques by Aronow x Brooklyn Tailors Repp Tie collection.

Brooklyn Tailors sort of ignited a movement by making fitted, well cut and dapper to death clothing for dudes who didn't necessarily have to wear suits, jackets or ties but definitely wanted to. When I met Danny and his wife Brenna, they were running the business from their home. Even back then, the cloth and attention to detail were fantastic. I took my first hit (a "stoner professor"-style medium wale honey/wheat corduroy suit that I still rock today) and I was hooked. Since then, Danny and I have collaborated on about 28 or so bespoke suits, jackets and pants. There's a lot of overlap between what I think is dope and what Danny thinks is dope. The pieces go with a button down oxford and a wild style jacket just as much as they do a semi-spread collar shirt and a grey suit. We loved that versatility.

We designed the fabric, a linen/silk blend, ourselves and had it woven exclusively in Sudbury, England. The ties were then manufactured in New Jersey in three color ways: grey/black with teal accent (that's the ones Diplo and Major Lazer have been wearing on their current tour), wavy navy/yellow with grey accent and my personal favorite, a soft blue/grey with a redish/brown stripe. The collection is our take on a Brooks Brothers striped repp tie, but perhaps a bit more "painterly" or "psychedelic." So yeah, we are psyched to have people wear the magic!
