Style encompasses more than just the clothes on our backs and the fly kicks on our feet. In Summer Serums, our new column, we shout out the grooming products that keep us fresh and make getting through the dog days of summer possible. This week, Naomi looks at Khushi's all-purpose Lavender Spray.
I have a hard time winding down at night. This has been true since I was a kid, staring at the ceiling of my bunk bed, heart and mind spinning their gears though the night and ruining the next would-have-been-good day of first grade. But it's especially true now that I work on the internet. At the office, I lean into my laptop's screen, just like I crowd the steering wheel in my car. At home, after I wash the dinner dishes, I'm back, sitting with my computer cross-legged until I close it for the night and light up my phone, scraping Instagram for one last boost. I may find something there that riles me up, but it's a proven fact that, cute pictures or not, my screen's fake light is brain stimulating. Because of this, and because he has to sleep or not sleep next to me, my boyfriend's instituted an unplugged hour before lights out, for catching up on the New Yorker and tricking our brains to sleep. I recommend this; it helps a lot. But I usually cheat, sneaking glances at Twitter, so my contribution to our bedroom's serenity really only amounts to this Lavender Spray, which I've been misting on our pillows. It's just water and lavender oil, nature's cure for restlessness and unstable moods. At night, when all the day's half-finished thoughts are clamoring for attention, its scent is a sweet, tangible reminder to calm the fuck down.
