A pop star in the Arab world with something of a rabid cult following in the West, singer Omar Souleyman has spent the past few decades ushering a traditional form of Syrian dance music called dabke into the present using drum machines and screaming synths. This Spring, he and touring partner Rizan Sa'id flew to Brooklyn to record with Kieren Hebden; somewhat comically, the Four Tet mastermind has since called the LP he engineered for them the "dance album of the year." Watch a trailer for Wenu Wenu above, and look out for the release on October 22nd via Domino imprint Ribbon Music.
