Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our column Line Item, we ask some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. Today, Hiroaki Ohya of Japanese animation studio Tezuka Productions tells us about their new collaboration with Lacoste L!ve, in stores now and on sale online at the end of May:
I love Lacoste because the brand is an icon in the world of fashion, the same way Tezuka is in the world of manga. For our collaboration, I wanted to use the Lacoste L!VE polo as a canvas on which to create a living manga. I started by hand-picking my favorite scenes from six original works by Tezuka to create what I call “polo comics.” The stories are developed successively on the cover of the package, the front and sometimes back of the polos and T-shirts, and then the back of the package in the order of introduction. It was a rare chance to create a living manga, from the cover on the packaging to the pages inside that will be eventually worn by someone and appreciated by people around them.
