Last night we had our after-work drinks in an unconventional place: at the Beats By Dre flagship store in SoHo. We were there to celebrate the brand’s collaboration with Futura, the esteemed New York graffiti artist whose trademark fine lines have been covering subway cars, punk records and quite a few other surfaces since the early ’70s. The collaboration has paid off with the release of some new limited-edition Beats, part of the Solo HD Artist Series and inspired by Futura's Atom artwork. They're pretty sharp looking—glossy white with abstract splashes of color. Vibes were high as we ate some vodka-soaked fresh fruit, nodded along to a DJ set from D-Nice and spotted honored guest Futura chatting one-on-one with admirers inside a soundproof room. He emerged a few moments before his latest wall-sized work of art was unveiled in the back of the shop. Dude was all smiles as he made the rounds, even nice enough to pose for an Instagram or two. Or twenty.
