In the years since his Def Jam debut, Rocko has become something of a people's champion, churning out hit after hit for the modern day chitlin circuit, never quite reaching the national acclaim he found with 2007's "Umma Do Me." Over the years, though, his songwriting seems to only have gotten stronger, and infinitely more fun considering his latest single, "U.O.E.N.O.", or last year's thoroughly underappreciated Worldplay mixtape. Now signed to E1, he seems to have a new energy about him, or as he'll readily admit, he actually cares now. He stopped by the FADER offices recently to talk about the gaps in his productivity, his transition from music exec (he can be credited with early discovery of both Young Dro and Future, whose career he is still very much a part of) to full time rapper and why rapping well matters to him now.
