Earlier today, I posted a Spotify playlist full of obscure old psych jams that I fell in love with back when I found out about most of the music I listened to through actual crate-digging. Around that time in my life, and not too far from the college town where I was living, Brattleboro, Vermont's Kyle Thomas was playing in a pretty amazing, hippy collective-style folk band called Feathers, which had something of a cult following in rural New England, and seemed dead-set on sounding like a forgotten band of freaks from the '60s. That group broke up a long time ago, but I can definitely hear the fastidious rock record collector coming through on this infectious, sun-bleached missive from King Tuff, Thomas' current musical alter ego (although I've also known him to play in a Sabbath-style metal band with J. Mascis called Witch). In fact, it's something of an archival entity in itself, as it's a track from an old, supposedly half-forgotten album of Tuff's that's getting reissued, ironically titled Was Dead (as in King Tuff was). Look for it on April 30th via Burger Records.
