Ja Rule was released from New Yorks' Mid-State Correctional Facility this morning, only to be immediately delivered back into federal custody. He's been serving time for illegal gun possession and tax evasion since June 2011: he plead guilty to the gun possession charges in December 2010, after New York police found a semiautomatic firearm in his car's rear door in 2007, when he was stopped for speeding. In March 2011, he owned up in federal court to not paying income tax in New Jersey from 2004 to 2006. He's served time for both charges concurrently, but his attorney says he's still got about six months to serve on the federal tax charge, which he may be eligible to spend in a halfway house. Not free yet, Ja Rule's on his way out and, still owing the IRS some money, his return to music is likely imminent. (It's rumored that an upcoming album, his 8th, will be called Renaissance Project.) Here's a look back at some milestones from his career so far, including the radio-ruling duets with Ashanti and J-Lo, a soundtrack cut with onetime foe DMX and soul-baring 2004 deep cut "Passion."
