It's worth bringing up the concept of sincerity when talking about Autre Ne Veut, who is making an approximation of R&B the same way that a lot of other people are making an approximation of R&B. His music is dense and essentially folds pop music tropes into a heavy mist of lonely moments and bedroom anguish. This alone isn't anything new, but listening to him, it sounds like he would not be able to get through whatever it is he's going through without making this music—it's less about the genre he's in close proximity to, and more about his own personal freakouts, blasted into the world through anguished yowls. Though this is just a stream of the song, it's presented as a video with karaoke lyrics on it, just in case you want to shut your door and belt it out along with him. Or don't do that. Go with whatever feels right, it's what Autre Ne Veut did. Anxiety will be out February 26th on Software.
