Video: Droop-E f. J. Stalin and Nite Jewel, “N The Traffic”

In the winter, I find myself listening to albums that are better for summer weather. Lately, I keep returning to Pete Rock and Deda's The Original Baby Pa, which has a three song run right at the beginning that perfectly epitomizes summer for me—it's all hazy, sepia-toned beats, muffled horns and bass that oozes and bleeds to the very edge of the tracks. Droop-E's new track with J. Stalin and Nite Jewel follows that same approach, condensing a summer of top-down driving and stoned lazing into a four-minute single (with bonus, silent cameo from Droop-E's dad E-40, among others). Droop-E's always been an innovator, both as a rapper and a producer, and it's interesting to hear Nite Jewel on this track, but not as weird as it would initially seem.Though she made a name for herself singing home-recorded pop, her recent work has shown an affinity for the same sort of warm, thick music that J. Stalin and Droop-E work with so successfully here.
