For the two gentlemen on the cover of our new Now Issue, our annual look at what's super important in the moment, it's been a year of rebirth: free from a bad record label deal, Miguel came into his own as an R&B artist in 2012, emerging unencumbered to write and produce one of the genre's biggest, smoothest hits of the year, "Adorn." He showed us around his native Los Angeles, granting us a little window into what's it like to navigate the world as a man on the brink of being a superstar. Owens, meanwhile, is giving a solo career a shot after breaking with JR White, his partner of many years in the beloved San Francisco band Girls. He talked to us exclusively about the breakup of the band and his new record Lysandre. We've also got features on four of the best hip-hop producers to watch in 2013 and a fashion story for which we talked to young New Yorkers about their hopes and fears for the coming year. FADER #83 hits stands December 11th, but you can read the entire Miguel feature right now.
