Universal is celebrating the 45th anniversary of The Velvet Underground and Nico this week with a tricked-out, five-disc, Super Deluxe Edition of the 1973 classic. They're also teaming with San Francisco garage imprint Castle Face to release a Bay Area-centric covers album with folks like Ty Segall, White Fence, and The Fresh & Onlys. Listen to Thee Oh Sees' take on "European Son" below; with its scuffed production and protracted guitar freak-outs, it almost sounds more classically "Velvet Underground" than the original. "The Velvet Underground & Nico" by Castle Face and Friends is out November 6th, but is already sold out.
