The FADER FORT Presented by Converse NYC: Day 1

October 18, 2012

The FADER FORT Presented by Converse opened last night in Brooklyn in a new venue, Rubber Tracks. There were some pre-show jitters and fresh fall Converse boots with fringe on the back. We've never done a four-day FORT in our hometown before, but everything started swimmingly. We drank smartwater while visual artist Cory Arcangel took to DJing sugary pop from his "Since U Been Gone" sculpture, previously displayed at the Whitney. LA duo Deap Vally performed brassy rock in sparkles and bare feet, leading in to another power girl-team. Layering miniskirts and hotpants underneath weather-appropriate black coats, Icona Pop performed pretty much all of their new, mood-transforming Iconic EP with a mountain of gear between them, taking sips of their Budweisers between killer dance moves. Later, Physical Therapy played a ton of Jungle and the room turned up with Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum cocktails and headliner LE1F, who brought along two camo-clad backup dancers.

MyMusicRX, the music portal that supports kids with cancer and their families, was there celebrating FADER and Converse's Brooklyn Bound series with an exclusive mix featuring Brooklyn Bound artists like King Krule, Smith Westerns and El-P. Get that along with a limited edition T-shirt designed by Jeremyville for a donation of $10 at FORT this week, or buy the mix via iTunes and Amazon next week. All proceeds benefit the Children's Cancer Association.

Check out photos by John Francis Peters, Roger Kisby and Ryan Muir to reminisce on last night or check out what you missed. If you're not in New York, join us online Friday and Saturday, when all FORT performances (set times here) streaming live on TheFADER.com.
