Villages is the project of Ross Gentry, who lives in Asheville, North Carolina and makes gorgeously creaky drones that give way to distant loops that take their time easing in and out of the composition. There are soothing elements to this music for sure—the casual introduction of what sounds like a gust of wind pushing a rusty gate—but it's also heavier than that. There are textures here that are thick enough to burrow into and live with for awhile. Just in time for winter, Villages' Theories of Ageing is out October 15th on Bathetic.
