Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Mobolaji talks about his Dundees by Birkenstock.
I was raised on Birkenstock. My mother wore those sandals rain or shine, with socks in the winter or bare in the summer. They’re so practical—as a shoe, it’s just a life lesson passed down about the importance of comfort and sensibility. As much as Birks are a part of my DNA, though, I’m a little apprehensive about showing my toes, so I’ve often shied away from their more famous open toed leather sandal. When I saw these, I was blown away. They’re just as clutch as the sandal, but they have the body of a shoe. Simply put, these are the best shoes I’ve worn in a long time, the shoes of my dreams. Mom is right about everything.
