Mala's aptly titled new Cuban-inspired album Mala in Cuba opens with a flourish of island drum that patters throughout this heavy bass like a heart murmur. Hard to decide which theme is ultimately driving the track, but a strong case goes for the dark Digitial Mystikz overtone that rattles the ears and drowns out any sound that feels exploitative or overly airy. Mala in Cuba is out September 11th on Brownswood Recordings.
