By the time August rolls around, people are significantly less stoked on New York's summer heat. It's inescapable, so we wallow. Sometimes all there is to do is just sit around and sweat. But we're adults! Work has to get done. Often when I'm stuck writing, I'll listen to ambient (or mostly ambient) music as a way of mellowing my mind and focusing my attention. The problem is that after awhile I start to drift off. It's hard to focus when you're listening to music that doesn't have a firm foothold. Here's a playlist that mixes both that warm drone (for concentration) with moments of hushed vocals and even a few drums as well. It's not going to make you want to rage, but it'll get you through the day feeling relaxed and kinda moody (in a good way! Mostly!). Just about every artist on this playlist is super prolific, so there's plenty to explore. Right now, though, Loscil's just released a compilation he helped curate (Air Texture Vol. II) and has a full length of original material coming later this year on Kranky.
