Last week, Papercutz—brainchild of the Portuguese producer Bruno Miguel—shared a rock-solid remix EP for "Where Beasts Die," a single from their new The Blur Between Us LP. Now, streaming above, we've got the whole album, an unsettling work Miguel says is about dealing with loss for the first time in one's adult life. There's something intangible here that makes my guts feel like a dribbling basketball. The singer Melissa Veras' voice haunts the album, crookedly beautiful, touching down most gracefully on "Rivers" and the "Beasts" single. But the instrumental tracks are affecting as well, like the marimba-guided "Redencao" (Portuguese for "redemption") and its triumphant, piano-strings-and-horns reprise. Buy The Blur Between Us on iTunes now, or via Papercutz' own store; a vinyl version comes out in September via Sounds of a Playground. Below, watch a behind the scenes look at recording the album.
