Update 7/18/2012: Billboard reports that Frank Ocean sold 131,000 copies ofChannel Orange in its first week (mostly digital, plus 3,000 physical discs), securing the #2 spot on this week's Billboard 200 charts and exceeding expectations.
Between the early, iTunes exclusive release of his album, Channel Orange, and his television debut, Frank Ocean has had one hell of a week. Here's more good news: the album is selling. Billboard predicts it will sell 100,000 to 120,000 copies and land at #2 on the July 18th Billboard 200 chart. Those numbers exceed Billboard’s initial sales projections of 40,000 to 50,000 albums, and also exceed the sales debuts of The O.F. Tape Vol. 2 (40k) and Tyler, the Creator's Goblin (45k). Today, in an appropriate tribute to his succes, FADER Label's Yuna has shared an exquisite cover of Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You," which you can watch below. It was recorded in her bedroom in a single take, with multiple layers of vocals and a mousey beat box looped live. When Ocean sings his chorus—Do you not think so far ahead, 'cause I've been thinking 'bout forever—it's already both tender and indomitable, but hearing it sung delicately one octave higher sends the song through the roof.
