Dublin's Darragh Nolan, producing as
Sacred Animals, has teamed with LA singer/songwriter
Steffaloo, a frequent muse for washed out electronics. They've collaborated on a fuzzier spin on her beautiful solo-guitar track, "
On Fire," released last summer
on Jaxart. In its spareness, the original was romantically meditative—
Let's sit here for a while, on this rooftop with our hearts gone wild—but Sacred Animals' take trades the couple's solitude for darker waves of feeling, the way good memories turn to regret post-breakup when there's no hope of making more. In his version the roof falls out, and in his dense synths Sacred Animals grabs another kind of devastating calm, when you're crumpled on the living room floor in the eye of an emotional storm.
