There'd been so much Twitter chatter about drag queen/poet/model Mykki Blanco before he'd even put out much music that we we'd been a bit skeptical about the buzz. In the same year and a half that's produced Azealia Banks, Lana Del Ray and ASAP Rocky, hype can be a confusing, layered, intimidating thing. Blanco squashes fears with "Wavvy." Produced by wunderkind and the hardest working man in showbiz Brenmar, the track proves that Mykki is not just charisma, though he has loads of that, but that he's wonderfully talented, a fast, snappy, nasty rapper who's versatile enough to jump on beats easy, using both sides of that gender binary perfectly (and everything in between) by somehow making this song mega-masculine and super bitchy at the same time. We saw him perform this live on Saturday night, a pair of short shorts and a messy wig, and people were grabbing at Mykki's stomach like he was a pop star. More songs this good will keep it that way.
