After putting out 30-odd demo-y tracks mere days ago, the duo behind Hype Williams are now streaming their more formal forthcoming LP Black is Beautiful that's out on Hyperdub next week. They're releasing the album under their real names, Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland, without the Hype Williams moniker, though that doesn't matter so much for a band whose identity doesn't make any sense and has always been a mystery. What does matter is how strong and cohesive Black is Beautiful is, a John-and-Yoko-like statement built on pleasant shimmers and the great back-and-forth between Blunt's screwed, blunted voice and Copeland's light but distorted sweetness. The record wins for being so wonderfully quiet, no hammer-hitting, just weird ideas presented to you in the softest, most gentle way, like the sound of pillow talk between the oddest couple in your friend circle.
