It might be obvious to say that Light Asylum is a band with emotional complexity, but it's worth mentioning, if only because, as a fan, we relate to how they can sometimes seem happy, romantic, even a bit sweet and other times they're as down in the dumps as we are on our worst days. That's life, you know? "IPC" is from their self-titled album coming out May 1st, and they are definitely in a blacker mood. The two-piece Suicide is clearly an influence here, employing some of the same tricks of repetition and hypnosis to convey darkness, but Alan Vega's vocals always seemed indifferent not depressive. Not true with LA's Shannon Funchess—she just sounds truly pissed, a desperate bellow to be heard. Can't say we never feel the same way, it's just our expressions of anguish are rarely this beautiful.
