Chief Keef’s Back from the Dead mixtape came out at 3:00 PM today, and, thanks in part to a singular sound from producer Young Chop, it's a promising sophomore effort for the charismatic teenage rapper. While his viral presence and the interest of artists like Lil B and Soulja Boy might indicate Keef's rap style is on the weirder end of the internet art-rap spectrum, his work is much more firmly in the tradition of Lex Luger and mainstream rap; when I interviewed him, at one point he rapped the chorus to Fat Trel's "Respect with the Tech." Perhaps the highlight of previously-unreleased tracks is the tape's finale, "Save That Shit," a track that blends street rap with melodic Atlanta swag rap in a natural way.
