Two new, great Valentine's Day-themed mixes have made it over from the UK, like perfectly timed messages in rose-colored bottles. Hudson Mohawke’s series of Valentine's slow-jam mixes is now its fifth year, long past teething and into the ferocious fives. Released via LuckyMe, who suggest complementing the mix with the Heathers DVD, a single rose or some salted caramels, the mix eschews Mohawke's usual frenetic walls of synth and beat, settling in for more tried and true romantic sounds, though for the life of me, besides Whitney I can't place three-quarters of these songs. Rarities! Rarities that are frequently, jarringly interrupted with torrents of pistol shots, like hat tips to scorned lovers. Love is complicated, etc.

Deadboy’s Valentine's mix comes via London club night/collective Wifey. He sticks to more familiar fare—Prince, Hall & Oates, Pat Benatar—interspersed with clubbier tracks like Mr. Figz' "Rain" and Dizzee Rascal's long lost "I Luv U" remix. The blends are the best part, though: his pitched-up mix into Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" 40 minutes in is to die on a bed of roses for.
