Watch James Murphy Act Mean in New Movie

January 27, 2012

As previously reported, James Murphy is making his feature film debut in The Comedy, presumably of the tragic-comic variety given the briefly sketched synopsis on the Jagjaguwar site: "Director Rick Alverson removes the safe, rosy filter off of contemporary culture to give the audience a look behind the curtain at the cost of American Utopianism and its unintentional byproduct of numbness and disconnect." We now have a brief, two-minute preview into Alverson's abysmal world view, in which Murphy sits bitch to Eric Wareheim and Tim Heidecker (of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) and looks mighty uncomfortable there. Together they make up a gang of half-bearded (astutely observed by Sam Hockley-Smith), half-hearted half-human beings. The film premiered at Sundance this past week, and will likely make it to every theater in New York and Brooklyn near you.
