Joe Blow’s 2011 record You Should Be Payin Me was one of 2011's best-produced LPs, and "The Dopest" was an easy highlight. Its windswept beat, courtesy producer Pak, has a way of giving lines from Blow's verses a terse power. The video doesn't stray too far from the double cups and kush smoke of rap videos more generally, until the scene where Joe raps directly to his daughter: The world's so easy, looking through my daughter's eyes / Until she asked me will I die and started to cry / I was stuck, didn't know how to reply/ Just told her it's a cold world, hard to survive / But for you I'm gonna do my hardest to try/ Make sure you don't have a hard day in your life.
