Matthew Dear’s work always seems to tow the line between nostalgia pop and cosmic jams primed for 2323. On "Headcage," the eponymous track from his upcoming EP, Dear is as moody as ever. Beats warble between late night cruising music and angular bass, a perfect backdrop for his deep, Elvis-on-lean crooning. The accompanying visuals, crafted by UK-based filmmaker, Morgan Beringer, looks like a kaleidoscope of swirling oil and nuclear explosions. Headcage will be released by Ghostly International on January 17th. A full-length, Beam, is slated for later in the year.
