The Kid Daytona’s recent tape The Interlude has a shot of the inside of a record store on its cover. For the unfamiliar, a record used to be the primary method by which people heard music; now they are largely used in creative decorative projects and as lifestyle accouterments for those with surplus disposable income.The Interlude is the kind of thing you might enjoy if you don't fit into the latter of those groups, but still enjoy looking through stacks of canonical hip hop records. It's a throwback, with lots of NY boom bap and an occasional left turn to another region. (It is nice to see Bink, one of the architects of The Blueprint, turn up on a tracklist again). "Ivy Coast Crime Scene", with the similarly retro-minded Action Bronson, is an unexpected pop move in the best way, with production, by 6th Sense, that suggests adventuring in the tropics while wearing Tim boots.
