Highway to Sell: On the Road with Grand St. Bakery

This summer, Neal Mello and Cyd Mullen opened the vintage store Grand St. Bakery, a huge space in Brooklyn where practically everything you see is for sale, from the soft, worn rugs on the floor to the oak tables stacked with holey tees. It’s a vagabond’s dream. As soon as Mello and Mullen opened the Bakery, they got rid of the apartment they shared, bought a camper van and hit the road, gathering things across the country to sell in the store. They often ask a friend to mind the shop during their trips, and spend weeks hitting up roadside vendors along the highway and sleeping on the beach under the stars.
