"Cocaine," the newest from The Internet, an R&B/computer funk project from Odd Future engineers Syd the Kyd and Matt Martian, is spiritual kin to N.E.R.D's airiest, least guitar shredded tracks. Syd's soft falsetto is less stable than Pharrell's. It bends and buckles across "Cocaine"'s waltzing, burpy drums, but her flawed vocals make the song more inviting. Syd's the star of the track's video as well, courting then leaving a prospective boo wasted at a claustrophobic carnival. When's the last time you saw a girl rapper make out with her girl in a rap video? Even though Syd keeps her earbuds in for most of the date, it's no small thing. The Internet allege they'll release an album before year's end on Odd Future Records.
