Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Mobolaji Dawodu talks about using his very own Adidas track jacket on a recent shoot in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
I wore this track jacket the entire time we were shooting the Fall Fashion story in Vietnam. We were finally on the last picture of the entire story, it was getting into evening, and we were photographing a young lady in the hallway of an apartment building. This kid walks out of his apartment and kind of looks around the corner at what we were doing. I just grabbed him on the spot. But I had run out of clothes to shoot on him! And, I was like, Okay I don’t really have any clothes left, I’m a little disillusioned, I don’t really want to style anymore. I just want to relax. I just thought, Yo, I’m going to dress this dude how I would dress myself. He even had my necklace on. Ever since I've come back and the weather has changed, I wear this all the time and I can’t not think about that guy because I feel like I’m copying his outfit or something.
Regardless, I've been rocking this a lot. I've always liked Adidas zip-ups. To me, they're the number one men’s sportswear item in the last thirty years. It’s one of the most recognized men’s classics. With this particular one, I think the color combination is amazing. When I wear it, it’s all about the three stripes. If yours have two stripes, it’s just not happening.
