Dead Gaze architect R. Cole Furlow's dad is the band director at Copiah County, a community college in Wesson, Mississippi. His new psych rock number "It's Not Real" was recorded at the band hall there, with borrowed marching band bass drums. You'd never guess. The bass puddles and gets buried under Furlow's craggy riffs and warped vocals. Somehow, this tangling doesn't dilute Furlow's voice. Through all the layers, his singing, full of heart, fights to the front. "It's Not Real" appears on Dead Gaze's self-titled 10", arriving late September on Group Tightener.
