More than totally dark or dire, Cass McCombs' first record this year was slow. Which as a feat of restraint is impressive, like he decided Wit's End wasn't ever going to get too worked up, and he really 100 percent committed himself to that. But there has been, historically, a more energetic side of Cass McCombs' music, and thank the lucky stars because it's coming back in full force: a new, decidedly uptempo sister album entitled Humor Risk arrives via Domino on November 8th, like the grinning flip side of his 2011 coin. "The Same Thing" is the first taste of that album. It's snappy and swinging proof the sun still shines on Cass McCombs.
