Having already produced two of the more slept on rap albums of the year in G-Side’s stunning Cohesive and Kristmas' slightly harder W-2 Boy, Huntsville, AL imprint Slow Motion Soundz continues their quiet rise.
This weekend G-Side dropped the second video from Cohesive, a psychedelic collage of melting photographs for "How Far" and announced the follow up album, entitled Island set for an 11/11/11 release date (exactly ten months, ten days after Cohesive). And today they premier supergroup The S.L.O.'s "Purple Onion." The track features a large chunk of the roster—G-Sider ST 2Lettaz, Kristmas, Slash & Bently—going in over producer Caness' haunting thump. It's a fine and literal exercise in what some have dubbed "Expedia Rap," treating the rap game like a game of Risk, planting as many flags internationally as possible. And then waving a middle finger at their proverbial opponents. Best/strangest boast of the day: I got shitfaced with the creators of The FADER.
