Not too long ago, DJ Quik released The Book of David. It's an excellent record that finds Quik taking a step back from the more experimental music he was producing on ’09’s Kurupt collaboration BlaQKout, in favor of smoother, more grown jams. Quik is absolutely still an innovator though—he's consistently finding ways to mold rap to fit his standards, and while we'll hold out hope for an official release of the Fixxers album he did with AMG a few years back, it's exciting to see someone so good at (and excited about) making music continue to push himself into new territory, even if he denies the entire idea that he's doing exactly that. In fact, we can't actually think of a single time when Quik wasn't doing something innovative.
