In 1996, MTV's The Real World: Miami (the one with Dan, the gay-model dude and that crazy three-way makeout in the shower) featured Sarah, a 25-year-old California chick who supposedly edited comics. She was a weird-but-not-that-weird girl idol—funny, non-violent and good at skateboarding. Television, reality programs included, has long-since abandoned female characters like her because they're too boring/not crazy looking enough, and today's great crop of young, nostalgic weird-girls with Tumblrs much prefer to screenshot Rayanne Graff. Cheryl Dunn (New Yorker, filmmaker, photographer) is a calm-minded woman who is good at having fun and respects her own talent. She's like a real(er) life, grown-up version of Sarah, someone to really look up to. Dunn's started and finished a million cool projects. Most recently, this blinking overlay-effect video for Panda Bear's "Slow Motion." It was filmed around the city and at a concert on Governors Island, where New Yorkers go to pretend that the foul, humid Hudson is like an ocean.
