NYC: Go See Andrew Dosunmu’s Restless City This Sunday at BAM

Photographer and frequent FADER contributor Andrew Dosunmu didn't have a hard time switching from his usual still photography for his feature film debut Restless City. "Making photographs has always been like putting together a flip book for me," says Dosunmu. "I've always told stories. Film is just the next step." The movie centers on a young African immigrant trying to hustle in Manhattan, and Dosunmu shot everything on the streets of New York, where he lives and works. "One thing that is different from still photography is that we had a whole team working on this project," says Dosunmu. "There's no ego in it. Everybody is equal, everybody is working." Part of that team was costume design from FADER's own Style Editor at Large Mobolaji Dawodu, and Dosunmu is finally unveiling the film in Brooklyn this weekend. "I'm just happy that this city will get to see it. This movie is for New Yorkers," says Dosunmu. "It was made with love for them." Check out the film this Sunday, May 29 at 6:50 PM at BAM.
