Is there a more comforting band than The War on Drugs? Yes! Van Morrison to name just one. But The War on Drugs are up there, especially when they do songs like "Baby Missiles," which is at once driving and laid back. Not sure how they manage to do both, maybe it's the wall of sound approach, or the piano that rises and falls in the background at the tail-end of the song, or maybe it's just the haze that blankets this and every War on Drugs song. Never any complete clarity, but plenty of illuminating moments.
