Kinda a chicken or the egg situation here, right? Diplo’s beat for Chris Brown’s "Look at me Now" always had echoes of Young L’s production in it. Harsh synth drops that sound like nothing even remotely organic, all coalescing into something slightly warmer, but still completely unfamiliar. Who really knows if Diplo was thinking at all about Young L when he made that beat, but the influence is there. Looks like Young L is going to join Kanye West, Freeway, Swizz Beatz, a bunch of other dudes we're forgetting and, uh, Chiddy Bang in the hallowed halls of artists who are either trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records or flood the internet with their music so that we don't pay attention to anyone else. That said, if someone's gonna do it, it might as well be one of the most exciting producers around. Here, L is rapping about video games over a beat he may as well have made himself, which is cool to hear. Here's hoping that next week he releases something entirely original.
