Ghettophiles is an up-and-coming label that's scrambling to pick up the best in juke and ghetto house. They've put together a sampler of tracks from upstarts DJ Heavy D, DJ Earl and DJ Phil, legends Traxman and Boylan, New Jersey-ite DJ Tameil, Chicago native Starfaux (one third of the three-man team Starfoxxx) and new Ghettophiles signee/Brick Bandits member, DJ Tiga. The collection's a lot to digest, plays like a survey of ghetto house from across juke's mother city and beyond. There's Boylan's hyper, not-for-epileptics pitched up funk sampling, Earl and Phil's abstract sci-fi minimalism and Heavy D's infectious house-y swing synth. Tiga and Tameil bring Jersey club crowd killers, Traxman offers emotive and uncanny melancholy. It's a mouthful, but so is a full steak frites dinner, and you don't hear any complaints when one is put in front of us.
