Yesterday around and after dinner time, recent Tri Angle Records signee Clams Casino unloaded eight instrumental fruits of his years spent hobbying around on limeshare, plus six remixes of proto-based mid '00s gems.
There's a lot of range in the heap— "Dem Wan," made for early collaborator-via-Myspace Deezy D, reflects the minimalism Clams has said he admires in Young L's production. "Fakest Year Ever," eventually topped by Casinos main collaborator Squadda B of Main Attrakionz, is lush and easy. It sounds dusty, like it lived a previous life as a tape in your Queens-born cousins bathroom, from when she was in high school in New York and in love. Clams lives in north New Jersey (and on the internet), but this zip folder, with its Paul Wall and E-40 remixes, feels like a love-letter from the Bay/KMEL in '06, affirmation that the fleeting moment when all of America recognized Mac Dre, E-40, Keak da Sneak and a pack of goofy boys wearing Vans as kings may have a lasting legacy beyond some dudes in San Mateo still turfing, after all.
