There was a sense of calm at the recent Siki Im presentation. The space was bare and minimalist in white with a figure 8 runway made out of simple dirt. The music that accompanied the presentation was live Native American drum beats and chants. So other than the fact that you were in a 4th floor building in NYC with a bit of street noise coming through the windows, it was tranquil and one with Mother Gaia.
Heavily constructed and layered pieces were the theme to Siki's collection. Unlike many of the other mens wear designers this season, Siki didn't look to the past or brighten up his collection with patterns or color, trying to wrestle with realities instead. Reflecting on how winter affects our mood, the collection was comprised mainly of blues and blacks in heavy fabrics such as wool, waxed cottons, Swiss felts, and cashmeres, representing the rapid change of day to night.
