Grammys Trash Talk: B.O.B. with Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars Overshadowed by Big Boi Talking About Chemtrails

February 14, 2011

Bruno Mars was born in Hawaii but he got lumped into a strange vision of Atlanta as the center of a new steam punk/doo-wop America on TV. B.O.B.'s stylist put him in a monocle that he was brave enough to keep on for about one third of his singing time. He didn't sound great delivering "Nothing On You", but we appreciate that he tried to style his chorus as southern-as-possible. Maybe our baby cousins will mimic that horse-twang now. Monae stood to his right in an amazing cape, we're not sure why she chose to crowd surf tummy-down when her turn came. It was a poor decision to shoot "Grenade" in black and white. The Grammys are shot live, it was a shame to see one of the show's young stars flattened, offered as bait to a conservative audience supposedly interested in his affection for a sweeter, less complex era. Still glad these three got a slot early in the ceremony, before we got distracted by Big Boi's tweets about chemtrails and the local Atlanta news. He's been all over the world and knows what's causing global warming. Peep the medley after the jump.
