There's a line in Best Coast's "Boyfriend" where former FADER intern Bethany Cosentino says, "the other girl is not like me she's prettier and skinnier," but last night on her big television debut on the tale end of late-night (if you don't count the time she sang backup vocals on Ellen.), Beth looked way pretty in a Dusen Dusen sweetheart dress, and yummier but still about just about as lean as other-guest Gwenyth Paltrow, all tough-armed and making the case for a new-years resolving to take on a regimen of gluten-free eating and near non-stop world touring in a haze of Cali weed, shoe shopping, Chipotle bowls, booze and diet drinks. To be clear, buff Sarah Connor size is cool but you're delicious in all shapes, girls. We waited around the soundstage to watch this go down live for like three hours, couldn't touch our cell phones or seltzer stash or smoke a cigarette the entire time. It was worth it, though, to see Jimmy Fallon loose-faced, air drumming with passion off camera, whispering to Wyatt Cynak about something we'll imagine was sensitive, vulnerable, dirty. At the end of the performance B releases a well controlled and proud Courtney Love-type elegant vomit groan, stretching just a little bit bigger the space in which thousands of suburban/wherever girls are now touching on their own throaty potential. Those new fans will be happy that for this entire month, Crazy For You is selling on Amazon for only five dollars.
