Venus and the rest of the Ghe20 Goth1k crew have paused their regular parties in New York because they got real big, filled with strangers who came to get touched and hook up, dance to dance music. Problem is this congregation doesn't make music to Jersey Shore to, just wants to make a place where people can reach for next-level and verge on one another with some kind of comfort and pleasure, slug-down and share their ideas, be free and queer. In the original "Hunter" video, Bjork is alone against a negative space white field in a bald cap. She's alternating between pleasure and ardor and human and beast, shifting confident face forms less for an MTV audience, it seems, then into a mirror towards herself. When it was on television, I'd click away because it wasn't playful like the Spike Jonze directed "It's Oh So Quiet", instead seemed all-about-her, selfish. Now, Venus X has come is to reframe the track, show how there is a right place for self-interest and indulgence, on the dance floor. She maintains the quick brush-roll drums and bloody violin of the original but makes the tempo less tricky-seductive and paces the whole thing for the steady work we do alone to abate and explore unrelenting crisis, with one big vocal zenith spot around 2:30 for the community to share in together, for a moment.
