One of the many reasons why people say house music is called what it is is because of a 1980s track by Chip E. called "It's House", possibly the first but definitely not last time the genre has self-referenced itself in song and title. Hercules and Love Affair's new single from their upcoming album Blue Songs is called "My House", and takes the self-aggrandizing heritage of the genre to another degree, describing exactly how fans feel when they hear tracks like this. Collaborator Shaun Wright sings My house is now in a higher place, free from your hands, I have my own space with gospel bigness and a soul house instrumental part designed to give you that necessary 3 a.m. jolt of optimism.
